The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world’s most popular English language test.
It evaluates all of your English skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking.
It measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work where English is used as a language of communication. It uses a nine-band scale to clearly identify levels of proficiency, from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9).
IELTS is accepted by more than 10,000 organisations in over 140 countries. These include governments, academic institutions and employers.
IELTS was developed by The British Council, IDP – International Development Program of Australian Universities and Colleges and Cambridge English Language Assessment.
Learning and Testing Services (LTS) of East Africa is an authorised IELTS Registration and IELTS Testing Centre for the British Council.

There is a specific IELTS test for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). If you are looking to work, study or live in the UK then you may need to take this particular IELTS test.
Take this test if the university or organisation you are applying to has requested that you take the IELTS for UKVI (Academic) test.
Take this test if you want to migrate to the UK or want to train or study below degree level.
Take this test if you need to prove your English Speaking and Listening skills as part of your application to UK Visas and Immigration for ‘family of a settled person’ visas.
Take this test if you need to prove your English Speaking and Listening skills as part of your application to UK Visas and Immigration for indefinite leave to remain or citizenship.
NB: Before booking your test, make sure to check which test you need with the organisations you are applying to.
The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.
The IELTS Academic test measures whether you have the level of English language proficiency needed for an academic, higher education environment. It reflects some of the features of academic language and assesses whether you are ready to begin studying or training.

IELTS General Training – prove you have practical, everyday English language skills
IELTS General Training measures English language proficiency in a practical, everyday context. The tasks and tests reflect both workplace and social situations.
Take this test if you would like to:
