Ausbildung in Germany

Quick question, have you ever heard of the term ausbildung? Sound familiar? No? Then let me tell you a little about it. The Ausbildung is also known as the dual education system. It is a distinctive feature of the German education system which combines practical, on-the-job training in a company with theoretical education in avocational school known as Berufsschule in the German language the ausbildung is meant to prepare young people for a variety of careers and has contributed considerably to Germany’s strong economy and low youth unemployment rates. Unlike in other countries, apprentices are paid for the Ausbildung!

Apprentices enrolled in the dual Ausbildung system usually spend one or two days per week in the vocation school and spend the rest of their time working at the company. In the vocational school apprentices have different classes that are related to the job. The duration of the Ausbildung program varies with every job and usually they take between two and three and a half years. They finish with a final exam (Abschlussprüfung).

To qualify for the ausbildung program, you usually need at least a form four school certificate and need to be proficient in German at a B2 level. Some examples of Ausbildung courses include Business and administration Event management IT and computer science Dental assistant, Industrial sales representative, automobile technology and Engineering.
