Before embarking on preparing for the TOEFL Test, it is essential to know the minimum score demanded by the colleges where you want to study. TOEFL Minimum Score is the lowest score that allows you to apply to the university. The minimum score varies from university.  Why is this important? For starters, once you know their expected score, you will be able to determine how many points you must achieve on the TOEFL exam. In addition, this will help you set a goal and stay focused.

There is no specific TOEFL minimum score to pass because the TOEFL requirement of the universities is not specific. It is important to note however that the school or college in question can determine a minimum score for each section of the test. That said, you may have a very good score overall but still not be accepted by the school because you did not meet the required minimum score in one of the other sections. The TOEFL score requirements for different programs can be different. However, an ideal minimum score to aim for would be 100 or above as it can secure admission to more colleges in the US. A TOEFL score ranging from 90 – 100 would make you eligible to apply to most universities but not necessarily the Tier I universities. For example, Stanford’s minimum TOEFL score would be different from Harvard’s minimum TOEFL score and every other university like these would demand a better minimum TOEFL score.  In general, an acceptable TOEFL score above 85 is considered to suffice for most college or university applications.

My advice on getting an acceptable score for a university or immigration application is to prepare. I know a lot of people will think, “What is the big deal, after all, it is just English right?” But is it just English? In as much as TOEFL is an English proficiency test, it is an exam like any other and requires one to acquaint himself/herself with the question types and timelines given in the exam.
